A wine that was born in 2013 , initially from the union of three wineries (Colle di Bordocheo, Fattoria Maionchi, Fattoria Sardi), which became five with the 2016 vintage (with the entry of Fattoria la Maolina and the Valle del Sole winery). The same territory but with completely different characteristics to best express the terroir of Lucca.
Colle di Bordocheo, in Segromigno in Monte being able to take advantage of the clay nature and the presence of limestone marls in the soil combined with the large amount of daily light, gives rise to wines of excellent structure with good acid shoulder and soft tannins.
Fattoria Maionchi, in Tofori, with the vineyard's particular exposure, adult age and the limestone nature of the soil, result in grapes of good power and longevity.
Fattoria Sardi, in Monte San Quirico, in the cooler but ventilated part between the Freddana and Serchio rivers with the presence of loose soils and a farm choice aimed at the natural, is characterized by a particular microclimate with constant ventilation and considerable temperature range that give rise to grapes of great flavor, finesse and elegance.
In order to further enhance the Lucca area with the 2016 vintage, the company Valle del Sole, and the farm "La Maolina) have joined the project.
Fattoria La Maolina located on top of the hill of the same name contributes the classic grapes that have always been grown in the Lucca area : Ciliegiolo, Canaiolo, Colorino that give the strongest imprint of the hills of Lucca
The Valle del Sole winery located in La Cappella intervenes with great quality sangiovese grapes from a unique microterroir characterized by a soil particularly rich in minerals that bring to the wine great qualities of preservability.
The creator and soul of this project is Massimo Motroni agronomist-enologist, lover and deep connoisseur of this of this territory with unique potential.
The name of the wine takes us back to 1968 when the Colline Lucchesi appellation was awarded the DOC mark
The mille968 comes from our cru vineyards , in the 2016 vintage the blend is the following Sangiovese (45%), Merlot (40%) Ciliegiolo, Canaiolo, Colorino (15%); Of course the blend can vary over the years while still maintaining the limit to fall within the DOC. Grapes are selected by hand and harvested in small crates, late September, early October. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, aging in barriques for 12 months and then in bottles for about 12 months before release.
About 1,500 bottles are produced annually.
